Larry Dean Scribner, a loving husband, devoted father, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the age of 78. A private family service will be held for the immediate family.
Born on February 28, 1947, in Owosso, Michigan, to Durwell and Mary Agnes (Nemecek) Scribner, Larry grew up in a lively household with his brother, David, and sisters, Audrey, Dianne, and Debora, in the small town of Byron. A true son of Michigan, Larry's roots ran deep in the community he called home for his entire life.
A 1967 graduate of Byron High School, Larry answered the call of duty and served his country with honor in the United States Army. While in the service he was stationed in Colorado where he fell in love with Elizabeth Lorraine Garcia, affectionately known as Liz. They were united in marriage on July 26, 1968, in Pueblo, Colorado, and together they nurtured a family filled with love and laughter, welcoming their daughter, Cynthia, and son, Michael.
Larry's work ethic was as strong as his spirit. He dedicated many years to General Motors as a lineman, where his diligence and skill were evident to all who worked alongside him. Even after retiring, Larry continued to work with his hands, crafting treasured wooden items that would become cherished keepsakes for his family and friends. Despite facing health challenges, Larry's labor was always a labor of love, a testament to his character and his generous heart.
His interests were as varied as they were passionate. Larry loved the great outdoors, often seen riding around his property on his Gator and down to his pond with his loyal dog, Stormy, by his side. He found joy in the camaraderie of poker games, but above all, his family was his world. The love he had for his wife, children, and grandchildren knew no bounds, and he was a constant source of strength and support for them all.
Larry's legacy is carried on by his son, Michael (Tonya) Scribner; his grandsons, Connor (Amay) Scribner and McKoy Scribner; his granddaughter, Mayven Elizabeth Scribner; his sisters, Audrey O'Dea, Dianne Sells, and Debora; and his beloved pup companion, Stormy. Each of them holds dear the memories of a man who was the epitome of loving, generous, and handy, a man whose life was a living example of kindness and perseverance. He was welcomed in eternal rest by his beloved wife, Elizabeth who preceded him in 2011; daughter, Cynthia who passed in 2021; his parents, and his brother, David Scribner.
Larry Dean Scribner's story is one of a life well-lived, and though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to live on through the stories you share, the moments you remember his impact upon your life, and each step you take to his special places on the property.
