Larry Joseph Strickland, 72, of Hendersonville, NC, made his heavenly ascent on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. He was born on March 3, 1953 in Madison County, NC, to his late parents, Boyd Washington Strickland and Maude Caldwell Strickland.

Larry graduated from Hot Springs High School and went on to AB Tech to study Accounting. In later years after declining health, he continued his education. He completed and excelled with on-line courses for computer coding and built websites as a side business after retirement. In the last few years, he had been attending on-line biblical courses with Dallas Theological Seminary which he loved. He did this and more all while battling cancer over the last 14 years.

Larry had various careers and interests over the years. He retired from AT&T in 2011, but he had also spent many years in business management and sales as well as manufacturing. He was very intelligent and motivated to learn new things and challenge himself. He was extremely hard-working and dedicated to every job or endeavor. He was constantly involved in learning and working on various projects. He never gave up on living and striving.

Larry was also a man of strong biblical faith who was beginning to build a career as an ordained minister. He had a heart for evangelism and his focus was to honor God in every way and to give God credit for all achievements. He was a positive thinker with strong values and showed determination in every situation and life challenge. He was focused on goals and fully committed to each project or job but was always aware of the people in his life and their needs and status.

His priority was to be a witness "for" God and to everyone he met. He was a man with a loving, playful personality who had a good sense of humor and who enjoyed people. Most of all he was a loving, kind, humble, gracious and giving man who always put others first and was especially devoted to his family.

Left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife of Lucero Montoya Strickland of the home; sons, Eric Strickland and wife Shanon of Hot Springs, and Ryan Strickland of Kentucky; step sons, Andres Montoya of Asheville, Juan Pablo Montoya and wife Youssrua of Arden, and Mauricio Gomez and wife Diane Santana of Colombia, South America; grandchildren: Summer Strickland, Yara Luna Montoya, Jaad Malek Montoya, Nicholas Gomez, and Veronica Gomez; siblings: Gary Strickland and wife Ann of Waynesville, Gerald Strickland and wife Karen of Leicester, Mike Strickland and wife Cathy of South Carolina, Rex Strickland and wife Lisa of Hayesville, Willene Strickland Harold and her late husband Steve of Michigan, and Marsha

Strickland Phillips and husband Frank of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews who loved their uncle Larry.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Services with Reverend Frank Willett officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Meadow Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
