LaVerne Faber, age 93 of Dubuque, IA, passed away on March 2, 2025. His absence leaves a space that can never be properly filled. He will always be remembered for his love, laughter, musical skills, and uncanny ability to make or repair just about anything.
Born to Joseph and Marie as a middle child among 12 siblings, Vern met the love of his life, Donna, at a dance in 1954. Little did he know at the time that a 62-year romance was ahead. Their marriage started in Germany followed by many years of adventures before wintering in Texas for their golden years.
The loss of Donna in 2018 provided some headwinds for Vern in his home stretch, which he weathered with a positive attitude. Other losses include nine of his 12 siblings and several in-laws.
Vern will be deeply missed by his children, Mark (Mary) Faber, Deb (Stu) Timm, Tim (Bev) Faber, Scott (Janet) Faber, and Michelle (Jeff) DeMuth. He took great pride in his grandchildren, Ashley (Ryan), Curtis (Mari), Nick (Evelyn), Matt (Kat), Ben (Amber), Andy (Taylor), Justin (Tracy), Brenton (Nicol), Alex (Rachel), Malia (Zach), Caitlin (Mike), Brooke (Shane), Collin (Melissa), and 25 great-grandchildren.
Please join us to share memories at a celebration of his life at Saints Anthony and Philip Church in Highland, WI on Thursday, March 6th. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 10:45. Mass will begin at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. The McGuire-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home, Highland is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.houckfuneralhomes.com
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Dubuque or the Highland Volunteer Fire Department as Vern and Donna were members.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Brian Sullivan, Dubuque Hospice, Trustwell Living Eagle Point, and Mercy One Dubuque. You treated Dad like family, and we are very grateful.
