Lawrence Spencer Patterson was born in Cornelius, North Carolina on March 31, 1937, to the late Lawrence Walter and Sadie Burton-Patterson. Spencer, as he was known, transitioned on July 1, 2025, surrounded by family. He is proceeded in death by his siblings Yvonne Patterson, Trilby Patterson, Joyce Patterson, Virginia Price, Edith Stinson, and Doris Cloud; and survived by his brothers Raymond Patterson (Charlotte NC), Bernard Patterson (Spartanburg, SC), and Senix Patterson (Troutman NC).
Spencer was married to the love of his life Brenda Patterson on June 17, 1961, celebrating 64 years of martial bliss; and their love produced 4 sons.
Spencer was a man of many talents, beginning with his education at Ada Jenkins school in Davidson, NC. He was one of the first TV cameramen at Victory Christian Center (VCC), he sang on the VCC Adult choir, and was a faithful member of VCC for 40 plus years. Spencer's career started out at A & P Grocery store at the age of 16, then moved on to Associated Grocery (Cashion's Food Mart). He retired as an Assistant Manager from Harris Teeter after 26 years.
Spencer enjoyed gardening, hunting, and had a love for his German Shepherds and Beagles. He enjoyed spending time with his family, including his children and grandchildren, and loved singing (especially bass), and was a great dancer in his younger days. He loved and is known for his little catch phrases, like "I don't let no grass grow up under my feet."
He leaves to cherish, his wife Brenda Patterson of Mooresville, NC; sons Reggie Patterson of Charlotte, NC; Mitch Patterson (Patrina) of Charlotte, NC; Marty Patterson (Clarissa) of Mooresville, NC; and Basil Patterson (Mia) of Charlotte, NC. He leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
