Lawrence "Larry" J. Rivet, age 79 of Appleton, WI passed away at his home on June 29, 2025. Larry had been dealing with long term COPD and was recently treated for lung and throat cancer. He was born on May 25, 1946 in Neenah to the late Lawrence Rivet and Verna (Rivet) Messman.

After graduating from Neenah High School in 1964, where he was commonly known as “Boots”, Larry joined the United States Air Force. One of his assignments as a Photographer Specialist was supporting the Gemini Space Program. This included taking still photos as well as supporting filming from trailing jets during launches. Larry’s service also included a tour in the Vietnam War for just over a year. As many other veterans have experienced, that assignment had a profound affect on him for the rest of his life. While he wanted no recognition or special attention, his family was very proud of his service to the country and the commendations he earned, but did not claim.

Larry had a career as a typographer and in pre-press/platemaking, which started at Neenah-Menasha Buyers Guide and concluded with his retirement in 2011 from Outlook Group, formerly Outlook Graphics. He developed a relationship with some of the original owners and appreciated their support during some challenging times in his life.

Although Larry was soft spoken and unassuming, he relished his role as son, big brother and uncle and his actions spoke volumes. He used his technical skills taking pictures, creating slide shows and making entertaining videos for many family members and events. These will provide great memories and a lasting legacy. Larry was an avid Packer, Brewers and Badger fan and enjoyed watching games with family.

Larry is survived by his brothers, Ed (Deb) Rivet, Greg Rivet, Tom (Sue) Rivet, Mark Rivet; and his sisters, Gloria (Tom) Blair and Wendy (Dan) Gray. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Gary LaRue who was more like a brother than cousin to Larry. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, George Messman; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Per Larry’s wishes a family gathering will take place at a later date when he is laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Neenah, WI.

His wit and sense of humor provided lots of laughter and will echo forever in our memories. Rest well, Dear Brother.
