Lawrence (Lonnie) Eric Underwood, 64, of 106 Oak Place Apts., Anderson, SC departed this life on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Anmed Health Medical Center, Anderson, SC. He was born November 06, 1960 in Anderson County to the late Irene Underwood McDowell and the late Joe Johnson.
He was a member of Wilson Calvary Baptist Church where he was involved in singing and leading some of the songs in the church choir, as well as participating in the Sunday School Lessons. He truly loved being involved in the church activities, as he could. Even with his health problems, he always wanted to attend church service, and he did until he could no longer do this due to his health declining. He loved not only his children of the church, but all the members and friends of the church. Even during his health problems, he continued to go on as he could, even with singing the praises of God. At times, Lonnie would say something or things that would make people laugh a lot. He could really be a funny guy at times- that's my brother! (Smile). (Before he began having health problems, he sang with his family group called Irene and the Underwood Singers).
He attended McCants Middle School and Hanna High School in Anderson, SC. After moving to Chester, PA with his mother, he attended school there. He later worked at a hospital in Chester, PA for many years before returning to Anderson, SC. Lonnie loved sports. Before moving to Chester, PA, he played baseball for Northside and then he played for Eastside. He played football for Hanna High School and was so fast on his feet! His favorite football teams were Pittsburgh, Philadelphia Eagles, and the 49'ers; his favorite basketball team was the Philadelphia 76'ers.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories to his daughters, Eric Underwood of Baltimore, MD, Ashley Underwood of Chester, PA; his sisters, Emily Judy U. Wilson, Kimberly Underwood of Anderson, SC, Debbie Johnson of Greenville, SC; his brothers, Anthony Underwood, Cedric Lewis(friend/ brother) of Anderson, SC, Dennis Cooper (friend/ brother) of Chester, PA; 7 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Lonnie was preceeded in death by his parents; step father, James (June) Underwood; sisters, Elaine Underwood Terry Quarles, Shirley Johnson Joann Stalling; brothers, Shelton and Dennis Underwood; daughter, Kwana Burns; son, Lawrence (Little Lonnie) Eric Underwood, Jr.; grandparents, Allen Dee (Daddy Dee) and Lucille (Mama Cille) Jones and Cassie and Janie Johnson and niece Andrey Alicia (Lisa) Wilson.
