Leland "Lee" Brian Puffe, age 75, of Hitchcock, TX, stepped into heaven on Saturday, June 21, surrounded by his loving family.
Lee was born in Bemidji, MN to Lloyd and Betty Puffe, and later graduated from Tech High School in St. Cloud, MN. In June of 1970, he married Janet Kilde, and together they raised two children, Michele and Jason. They made their home in Blackduck, taking up residence in the house Lee built for his family. Snowmobiling, hunting and ice fishing were among Leland's favorite pastimes. Lee's twenty-plus year tenure at Nodak Construction in Grand Forks, ND, was marked by his exemplary skill and work ethic, which had a significant impact on the company.
In March 1989, Lee moved to Texas and married Bunny Mullins, with whom he shared a full and vibrant life of over 36 years. Together they raised three daughters, Amber, Katy, and Audrey. In 1991, Lee graduated from Abundant Life School of Ministry and later embarked on numerous mission trips. He was a proud member of Believers Fellowship of Alvin. In 2015 he retired from the Port of Texas City Harbor Master's Office, concluding a career of more than twenty years of dedicated service. Lee, a modern-day MacGyver, was gifted with the ability to build or fix anything and even tackled the intricate construction of a steel arched cabin, designed for and dedicated to ministry. He had a love for old cars, motorcycle riding, fishing, and would never pass up a "friendly" game of cards. He recently took pleasure in cruising around on his electric Mooncool tricycle. Leland was known for his outgoing nature, and his eagerness to assist anyone in need. His parting words were often marked by a cheerful and lighthearted, "Catch ya later."
Lee had an overflowing love for his children and grandchildren and treasured the relationship he built with each of them. Above all, Lee's true passion was telling everyone about the love of God. He enthusiastically shared his personal story of how Jesus had saved his life, offered forgiveness, provided help in overcoming challenges, transformed his heart, and gave him eternal life. Lee was an eager witness, a dedicated soulwinner, and always ready to pray with others. He looked for every opportunity to point people towards Jesus and his transformative power.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Betty Puffe, and his brother, Larry Puffe. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bunny Puffe; his children: Michele (Gordy) Cornelius, Jason (Tina) Puffe, Amber (Freddie) Schmidt, Katy Mullins, and Audrey (Ben) Williams; grandchildren: Corinne (Dylan) Schneider, Stephen Herrera, Trinity (Peyton) Sims, Jessica Herrera, Levi Paul, Noah Herrera, Fisher Paul, Luke, Ruthie, and BB Williams; great-grandchildren: Isabel and Daniel Ratisseau, Ruby and Millie Sims.
Lee is also survived by his siblings: Karen (Tom) Coffin, Gina (Chuck) Estey, Kim (Tim) Kondos, Jon (Karen) Puffe, and Chip (Jennifer) Meyerhoff, stepfather, Al Meyerhoff, and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
