Lillie T. Pettus was born on October 4, 1946, to the late Daisy G. Britton and Archie James Thomas. She went home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2025, after a long-fought illness.
She was educated in Mecklenburg County, Virginia schools and attended West End High School where she graduated in 1966 and married Harry W. Marrow Jr. and to this union two children were born, Yulando S. Marrow and MiChelle D. Marrow. Lillie was a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church of Finchley, VA, where she served as the church clerk for 2 years and remained a faithful member until her health started to decline and even then she dialed in for church service. She would be the first to tell you she did not go to church every Sunday, but she did go and loved God.
She was one of the first African Americans to work in retail in Chase City, VA. She also worked at Burlington Industries in Clarksville, VA and South Hill, VA. She also was a licensed insurance agent for Huff Cook insurance many years. She later went to school in Philadelphia, PA for cosmetology where she graduated and was licensed. She also went to school for nursing, took a Phlebotomy class, and became a Certified Nursing Assistant.
At her time of death, she had retired from nursing. She loved taking care of the sick and less fortunate. She thought everyone needed to be taken care of.
She was preceded in death by her late husband Jerry Pettus. Three brothers James "Jimmy" Thomas, John "Ed" Johnson, and Ernest "Sly" Thomas and four sisters Daisy Hargrove, Mary Louise Jackson, Geraldine Prophet, and Virginia Bates.
She leaves to cherish her memories and live on through two children, devoted daughter, MiChelle (Niecy) Marrow of Highland Springs, VA, and son Yulando (Landy) Marrow (Tracey) of Clarksville, VA. She had four grandchildren Damione R. Marrow, Franki D. Marrow, Ashley Tingen and Patrick Tingen and four great grandchildren KhaMaria Lee, Dameari Marrow, Lyric and Dameiyon Marrow. One sister Rosa Boyce (Rick) of Richmond, VA. She had several devoted friends whom she talked to often and loved dearly, childhood sister- friend Betty Hayes
Coates, Gloria (Cookie) Townsend, Margretta Wilson, Estelle Venable, and Jean Mosley who preceded her in death and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
There will be a Walk Through on Friday, July 4, 2025 from 3:00PM-5:00PM. Funeral Service for Mrs. Lillie Thomas Pettus will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at the New Liberty Baptist Church at 12 Noon. Reverend Mack Talley, Pastor is the eulog
