Linda M. Byrd (nee Klonk), 65, of Berlin Heights, OH, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Lorain, Ohio, surrounded by family.
Linda was born on July, 21, 1959, to Dan and Kay Klonk. She graduated in 1977 from JVS as a student of Avon Lake High School. Linda worked several jobs before landing permanently at Kendera Construction in Avon, OH, where she worked for over 20 years. In 2024, Linda partially retired to spend more time with family, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She loved to do crafts with her twin granddaughters on her absolute favorite day of the week, Tuesday. An avid lover and follower of Jesus Christ, Linda spent her years spreading love and joy, serving the Lord and the community with her church, Florence Church in Berlin Heights. When she wasn't spending time with her family, Linda loved to pass the time by crocheting blankets and other fun things for her grandkids, and really anyone who needed/wanted something. Linda loved music and enjoyed attending concerts, especially Christian worship concerts. Known and loved by many, Linda left a legacy of passion and selflessness that will live on through her family and friends, and in every memory of her.
Linda is survived by her children, Anthony (Tony) J. Smerk, Jr. (Ashley) of North Ridgeville, OH, and Cari L. Smerk of Avon Lake, OH; step-son Jared Byrd (Susan) of North Ridgeville, OH; grandchildren Avery and Addisyn Smerk (Tony), and Haylee and Aydan Byrd (Jared); her siblings, Dan Klonk (Kitty) of Westlake, OH, Brian Klonk (Jennifer) of Avon Lake, OH, and Sherry Donegan (Patrick) of Avon Lake, OH; her Mother, Kay Klonk (Dan) of Avon Lake, OH; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (Jerry) Byrd (Sept, 2023), and her father, Dan Klonk (June, 2023).
The family are gathering for a private, intimate service to honor Linda together in the near future. A larger, open-door celebration of life will take place on a date to be determined. The family will welcome all who knew and loved Linda to share in fellowship and honor her memory at the celebration of life. The information for that celebration will be publicized once confirmed.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda's honor can be made to her church, Florence Church of Berlin Heights.
