Linda Jean Hagar
May 10, 1946 – July 7, 2025
Linda Jean Hagar, born on May 10, 1946, on Breezy Head Farm in
Plattsburgh, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2025 at CVPH Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved daughter of the Luther and Doris (Laver) Hagar.
In 1968, Linda married Rocco Joseph Mancini, and together they built a life centered around family and community. Though their paths later diverged, their shared years brought forth a beautiful family and many memories.
Linda was a proud graduate of Beekmantown High School, Class of 1964, and went on to study cosmetology at the Utica School of Beauty Culture. She spent her 55-year career as a dedicated beautician, working in many local salons and at one time owning and operating A Cut Above with her daughters Lori and Shelly. With scissors always at the ready, Linda was known for her generous spirit and her love of helping others feel their best. Even after retirement, she continued to offer haircuts and makeovers to friends and family.
She is survived by her three children: Tim Mancini, Shelly (Richie) Esposito, and Lori Mancini; her five siblings: Sue (George) Miller, Jonathan (Fatima) Hagar, Jane (Matthew) Babbie, Dorothy (Joe) Coia, and Jeffrey Hagar; and her seven beloved grandchildren: Hillary Mancini, Meagan Mancini, Tim Mancini, Andrew (Kristen) Peryer, Allison Peryer, Azlin Peryer, and Izabella Esposito. Linda also leaves behind two special nieces, Melissa Rock-McCasland and Jill Bushey; great-nieces Emma and Grace McCasland; great-nephew Benjamin McCasland; many other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews who live near and far; Hagar, Ladue, Allen, Upton, and Laver cousins and close friends Judy Lighthall-Marking, Julie Girdich and Julie Davidson.
Linda's life was filled with creativity and joy. Affectionately known as "Foxy Lin," she had a special fondness for anything adorned with foxes. She had a true talent for crafting, especially when it came to making beautiful wreaths for every holiday and season. Her home was always warm and welcoming, lovingly decorated with her handmade touches that reflected her festive spirit and eye for detail.
She loved spending time down at the lake. She always kept a bathing suit, water shoes, and her favorite lawn chair ready, and in the summer, she was often found enjoying the day by the water with a Pepsi or sweet tea in hand. Of course, she had her scissors nearby and was always happy to offer a "dockside haircut" to anyone in need.
She cherished her time with the "Gourmet Grannies," a close-knit group of friends who bonded over their shared love of good food and heartfelt conversation. They took turns hosting dinners in their homes, where laughter and storytelling were always on the menu. She also loved trivia nights and could often be found at local restaurants, enjoying friendly competition and laughter with her favorite people. She was a familiar face at the local Friendly's; no menu needed, no introductions required, they knew her name, her order, and her stories by heart.
Linda especially treasured time with her grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews. She loved cheering them on at games, recitals, and school events. Whether relaxing at the lake or by her daughter's pool, she found joy in simply being with family. She especially enjoyed watching musicals and listening to her grandkids sing, always beaming with pride.
A woman of deep faith, Linda was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church and attended services regularly. Her faith was further strengthened by the guidance and friendship of Pastor Phil, whose words and presence brought her comfort and inspiration throughout the years.
In accordance with Linda's wishes, there will be no public services. The family will gather privately to celebrate her life and honor the love, joy, and warmth she brought to all who knew her. Memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Church on Beekman St.
