Linda M. Wheeler, age 85 of Cherokee, IA passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, IA. It was Linda's wish to be cremated and private family memorial services will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marcus, IA, at a later date. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus, IA is assisting the family with arrangements.
Linda M. Wheeler, a beacon of kindness and generosity, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa. Death takes the body. God welcomes the soul. Our mind holds the memories. Our heart keeps the love. Our faith lets us know we will meet again.
Born on February 8, 1940, to JC and Ella (Schoenrock) Stowater on her grandparents' farm near Hinton, Iowa. Linda's life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit and her unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Linda's early years were spent on the farm, where she developed skills such as baking, cooking, assisting with farm repairs, and became a Jill of all trades.
Linda often spoke of the time in May 1954 when in one weekend she was confirmed at church, the following weekend she graduated eighth grade, and the weekend later she had lost her father. This period in time she learned to celebrate the ones she loves and develop life defining resilience. Linda would later graduate from Marcus High School in 1958. Linda worked for a telephone company in Cherokee, IA. As a result, she was known for her uncanny ability to determine the worth of a dropped coin.
She was united in marriage to Larry Wheeler on June 12, 1960, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marcus, IA. They were blessed with two daughters, Ann and Kristin.
Throughout her life, Linda embraced the role of homemaker with grace. She was known for baking detailed and thoughtful birthday cakes for her family and friends. Linda also shared her nurturing spirit with many children as a beloved babysitter. Linda later went to work at JC Penney's and Joyce's Shop in Cherokee, Iowa. Linda would later retire from Cherokee Regional Hospital from the Business Office.
Linda's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She had a passion for genealogy, gardening, and baking. Linda's commitment to her faith was unwavering, with Bible studies at Trinity Lutheran Church being a cornerstone of her spiritual life.
Linda's legacy is carried on by her daughter, Kristin Maves of Cherokee, IA, and her cherished grandchildren, Sara, Kate, and Matt Maves, also of Cherokee. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sandra Stowater of rural Cherokee, IA, brother-in-law Bill and Roberta Hueser of George, IA, sister-in-law Delores Wheeler of Cherokee, IA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Carl and Lucille Wheeler, her husband, Larry Wheeler, her daughter, Ann Wheeler, her son-in-law, Michael Maves, her brothers, Rodney Stowater and Darrell (Shirley) Stowater, her nephew, Trent Stowater, and her in-laws, Charlie and Sherry Wheeler, and her niece Laurie Wheeler.
Described by those who knew her as generous, kind, and faith-filled, Linda M. Wheeler's memory will forever be a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and it is this love that will continue to inspire and comfort those she has left behind.
