Mary Lisa Wood Steketee June 26, 1968 – January 7, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Lisa Wood Steketee, 56, of Lexington, Kentucky. Lisa passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, from natural causes. A devoted mother, sister, and friend, Lisa's kind heart and unwavering spirit made her a beacon of light for all who knew her. Her legacy of love, generosity, and warmth will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone she touched.
Born on June 26, 1968, in Owensboro, Kentucky, Lisa was the daughter of the late Joe Wood and Sue Lander Zartman. She grew up in Hopkinsville and graduated from Hopkinsville High School. She then graduated from the University of Kentucky and made Lexington her home. Throughout her life, Lisa was known for being the brightest light in any room she entered. Her infectious smile, compassionate nature, and the genuine love she showed others made her a friend to all and a cherished family member.
Lisa's greatest joy came from spending time with her children, Logan and Hannah. She poured her heart into their lives and was their biggest cheerleader, always ready with a word of encouragement and love. Her pride in them was immeasurable. In addition to her family, Lisa had a special place in her heart for the Kentucky Wildcats, and she could often be found cheering on her beloved team especially with friends and family by her side.
Known for her kindness and her ability to make anyone feel seen and valued, Lisa's generosity extended far beyond her immediate circle. Whether it was offering a listening ear, lending a helping hand, or simply sharing her infectious laughter, Lisa made everyone around her feel like they mattered. Her optimism and heart of gold were unparalleled, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Lisa's life will be held at 1:00 PM CST Thursday, January 30th, with Rev. Dan Huck presiding. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM CST until the service at 1:00 PM CST at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home in Hopkinsville, KY. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Survivors include her son Logan Steketee of Lexington, her daughter Hannah (Roman) Casper of Lexington, her brother Michael (Carrie) Wood of Pensacola, FL, her aunt Becky Hatfield of Hopkinsville, and numerous cousins.
Lisa's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her children, family, and friends. She was truly one of a kind, and her legacy of love and light will continue to shine brightly. May she rest in peace.
