Lisette Marie Savoy Deckard, age 55, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on July 11, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with lupus.
Lisette was born on July 30, 1969, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to James (Jimmy) and Louise Savoy. She was raised with love and encouragement in a close-knit family, alongside her brother Travis Savoy.
She graduated with honors from St. Martinville Senior High in 1987, earning academic scholarships for college. Lisette attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (U.S.L.), Tulane University, and later the University of New Orleans (UNO). Though she faced increasing challenges due to lupus, which she was diagnosed with at the age of 15, she pursued her education with determination until illness made it impossible to continue.
Lisette worked in public service as an A.F.I.S. Technician, first with the New Orleans Police Department and later with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Iain Deckard of New Iberia, through a mutual friend. They quickly discovered a deep connection rooted in shared values, humor, and mutual respect.
Together, they began their life in Lafayette before moving to Wichita, Kansas. Lisette later worked at Northridge Veterinary Clinic, where her love for animals-especially her beloved Yorkshire Terriers and Siamese cat-was evident to all who knew her. Unfortunately, her worsening health eventually forced her to stop working, though she gave everything she had while she could.
Lisette was a passionate reader and a lifelong fan of romance novels, which brought her joy and laughter. She frequently reviewed books for authors and was known for her sharp wit and insightful commentary. Her warmth, humor, and strength touched everyone she met.
In later years, she traveled regularly to Denver for specialized care at National Jewish Health. Lisette deeply admired the compassion and professionalism of her care team, and she cherished the mountain views of Colorado-often dreaming of one day making a home there with her husband.
Lisette is survived by her devoted husband, Iain Deckard; her parents, James (Jimmy) and Louise Savoy of Lafayette, LA; her brother and sister-in-law, Travis and Allison Savoy; her nephews, Tyler (fiancee, Katelyn Berry and their son, Gunner) and Jacob Savoy; and her great-nephew, Gunner-all of Lake Charles, LA. She is also remembered by her extended family, close friends, and a community of fellow readers and animal lovers.
A private memorial service will be held for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Lisette's memory to the Lupus Foundation of America or National Jewish Health.
Lisette was also a registered organ donor. Even in death, she gave one final gift-offering the chance to help others through her donation.
Lisette lived with grace, fought with strength, and loved with all her heart. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
