Lois Bement, age 86, formerly of Waubun, MN, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Lois Irene Pedersen was born on April 19, 1939, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Edvin and Lorene (Stenerson) Pedersen. The Pedersen family traveled frequently when Lois was young. Lois' family moved to Waubun when she was in the 11th grade. They bought the Rainbow's End dance hall, where she was selling tickets and met Ted. Lois graduated from Proctor High School with the class of 1957. She was married to Theodore "Ted" Bement on August 10, 1957. Together they made their home in Waubun and were blessed with seven children. Along with raising her family, Lois worked beside Ted at Bement's Service Station, serving as the bookkeeper. Preparing for retirement, Ted and Lois built a home at Tulaby Lake where they enjoyed many years together. Ted passed away in 2012, and Lois continued to live at the lake until 2016 then moved to Detroit Lakes.
Lois kept a very active lifestyle. She tended flourishing vegetable and flower gardens, canned her harvest, and filled her kitchen with home-cooked meals and baked goods. A talented crafter, she was especially skilled in crochet and hardanger, leaving behind many treasured pieces. She also enjoyed sewing, making wooden dolls, and sharing craft projects with her grandchildren. Active in her community, Lois belonged to Hobby Club, volunteered her time in many ways, and participated in Ladies Aid at both St. Ann's Catholic Church and St. Francis Cabrini. She and Ted loved playing adult recreational volleyball and taking long walks together. Family and faith were the heart of Lois' life. She will be remembered as a classy, kind, and generous woman who always thought of others before herself.
Lois is survived by her children: Kathy (Joe) Berry, Mark (Carol) Bement, Rob (Alecia) Bement, Patti Bement, David (Jenn) Bement, Jackie (Scott) Zortman, and Scott (Amanda) Bement; grandchildren: Josh Bement, Jenna Jacobson, Randi Andersen, Samuel Berry, Tylor Bement, Katie Haskins, Nikki Sprouls, Jesse Clark, Jamie Wagner, Ryan Bement, Janessa Miller, Nathan Zortman, Holli Kruse, Jack Bement, Alaina Bement, Joe Olivieri, Talia Olson, Amanda Smith, Brandi Olivieri, and Michelle Gentile; 35 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; sister Colleen (Cookie) Doyea; brother, Larry Pedersen; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
