Lois Charlene Fairchild, the daughter of Carl and Hulda (Dahlberg) Wessman, was born on March 11, 1930, in Marathon, Iowa. She was raised and received her education in Marathon, graduating from Marathon High School.
On June 18, 1947, she married Roger Fairchild in Jackson, MN. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Marathon and Sioux Rapids area for 12 years before moving to Spencer 1962. She worked various jobs in Spencer before she started working at SMU as a bookkeeper. She worked there for 21 years, retiring in 1995.
Lois loved being a homemaker and raising her family. She was an excellent seamstress making clothes for her family. She was a great cook, and loved to garden. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting and doing all kinds of crafting. She received many blue ribbons at the Clay County Fair for her sewing and knitting projects. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with the grandkids and great grandkids.
Lois passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger in 2021; one brother; two sisters; son-in-law, Roger Dayton; one nephew and one niece.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Carol Dayton of Bella Vista, AR, Dennis (Joyce) of Chapel Hill, NC, Douglas (Patti) of Tonka Bay, MN and Holly Nystrom (Bruce) of Milford, IA; 5 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
