Lola Bell Foster Settles, 81, was born in Greenwood, SC on April 29, 1944, a daughter of the late Edward Foster and Willie Mae Parks Foster.
She was a faithful member of Springfield Baptist Church where she served on the Gospel Choir and was a former Sunday School Teacher. She retired from Cooper Power Systems in Greenwood.
She was preceded in death by her: first husband, Phillip Gilchrist; two sons, Sherman Gilchrist and Donald Gilchrist; four sisters: Marion Tolbert, Bessie Johnson, Alberta Hurley and Gladys Aiken. She later married James E. Settles who also preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Patrice L. Gilchrist of Greenwood, SC; one son, Richard Gilchrist, of Greenwood, SC; one brother, Edward Foster, Jr. (Mary), of Greenwood, SC; two grandchildren, Ian Gilchrist and Adrianna Gilchrist of Greenwood, SC; two great-granddaughters, Taraji Gilchrist and Elani Gilchrist; one great-grandson, Jaylis Durant; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Lola Bell Gilchrist Settles will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Springfield Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Knox officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Settles will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the church.
Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025, in the Percival-Tompkins Chapel.
The family is at the home, 109 Myrtle Drive, Greenwood, SC 29649 (Magnolia Subdivision).
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is honored to serve the Gilchrist-Settles family.

Anyone that knew Aunt Bell,knew she kept it 100,she helped any and everyone she could,to my family she was more than an Aunt by marriage,but blood.We did see much of of each other but I did tell her how much she was appreciated.You could talk to her about anything.I can speak for my family we are very very greatful for Aunt Bell.I am most appreciative of the love her & my mom had for each other,I remember I had just left home for work to find out she had Aunt Bell to take her to Urgent Care I called Aunt Bell she said go to work yo moma & I got this ,I just cried cause Aunt Bell knew she did feel well & I didn't.Aunt Bell you will always hold a very special place in our lives oh and Grandma said you would always be her daughter in law which you already knew.Aunt Bell take your rest.Love always Cook & Family.
