Loren Leroy Slaughter, 89 of Sterling, CO passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025, in Greeley, CO. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 2 at Peace Lutheran Church with Deacon Ro Fesser officiating. The service will conclude at the church with a luncheon to follow.
Loren was born January 17, 1936, in Pender, Nebraska to Lloyd Arthur and Edith Mary (Seward) Slaughter. He graduated from Pender High School and attended one year of college. Loren then enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 30, 1955, and was assigned to the C 45th Armored Infantry Battalion. He was honorably discharged on April 29, 1957. Loren married Beverly Jean Otteman in Pender, Nebraska on December 25, 1955. After returning home from the U.S. Army, Loren worked for the Colorado State Highway Department of Transportation, where he was a surveyor and project engineer for 33 years. Beverly passed away January 30, 2017. Loren married Judith Lauree Berner on December 22, 2018.
Loren was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 1336 for over 50 years. While working for CDOT Loren received the State of Colorado Award for service above and beyond. He was an avid hunter, angler, and enjoyed riding horses. Loren was also a volunteer firefighter and medic for the Rifle Fire Dept.
He is preceded in death by his wife Beverly Slaughter, brothers Marlin and Duane Slaughter and his parents Lloyd and Edith Slaughter.
Loren is survived by his daughters Deborah (Tom), Meader of Parachute, CO, and Amber Walter of Holyoke, CO, his son Rex Slaughter of Gurley, NE; ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Loren's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers that assisted with his care.
Memorial contributions may be made in Loren's name to Sterling Elks Lodge or Peace Lutheran Church.
