Lorenzo "Larry" E. Carreon, 77, a longtime Deming resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at home surrounded by his family.
Larry was born on June 22, 1948, in Hanover, New Mexico to Herbert and Agripina Carreon. He was a graduate of Deming High School and later in life earned a Bachelor's degree of Business Administration from Western New Mexico University. For the next 31 years, Larry worked in Hurley, NM at the Kennecott Copper Mine. During this time, he also enlisted in the Army National Guard and served his country honorably for 33 years, retiring in 2002. Upon his retirement, Larry began a new career as a very successful realtor at Deming Realty Company. He found much joy in helping families find their forever home.
Larry enjoyed traveling, spending time outdoors and especially, coaching Senior League baseball for many years with his brother Albert. Still being called "Coach" by former players today. Larry was known for his generosity, fun-loving nature, and deeply valued his lifelong friendships.
Larry married Frances Pacheco on January 9, 1971, in Deming, NM at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Together they raised their three daughters Denise (Felix) Holguin of El Paso, Texas, Tammy (Mark) Castorena of Peoria, Arizona, and Frances (Jeremy) Wilson of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Larry is survived by his three siblings, Albert (Gloria) Carreon, Frances (Henry) Parra, and Rosie (Jimmy) Galindo; his seven grandchildren, Zachary Baeza, Ezekiel Baeza, Jake Holguin, Joey Holguin, Brooke Castorena, Laney Wilson, and Logan Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Agripina Carreon.
Receiving the honor to serve as Larry's pallbearers will be Felix Holguin, Mark Castorena, Jeremy Wilson, Zachary Baeza, Ezekiel Baeza, and Jake Holguin. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joey Holguin, Brooke Castorena, Laney Wilson, Logan Wilson, Albert Carreon Sr., and Jimmy Galindo Jr.
A viewing will begin Sunday, July 13, 2025 at Baca's Funeral Chapel from 5 to 6 o'clock in the evening. The Holy Rosary will then be recited at 6 and will be led by Patsy Leyba. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 9 o'clock in the morning at St. Ann's Catholic Church with the rite of committal and interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Fr. Ivan Torres will be officiating.
The family would like to thank his Ambercare Hospice nurses for the incredible and compassionate care they showed him and his family during his final days. If anyone would like to donate in Larry's name, the family has requested they be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, www.apdaparkinson.org, to assist in research for this incurable disease.
