Loretta Agnes Swan, age 91, of Tomahawk, WI passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Milestone Senior Living in Tomahawk, WI. Loretta was born on January 21, 1934 the daughter of Henry and Agnes (nee Gleisner) VanHarpen.
Loretta attended St Mary’s School and graduated from Tomahawk High School in 1952. She married the love of her life Joseph J. Swan on August 6, 1955. Together they had 6 children. Loretta was a stay at home mom until the youngest went to school and then worked part time at Deer Skin Corral and Dee’s Hallmark. Loretta was a Catholic Knights fraternal branch officer for 24 years and then became the first branch member to serve on the board of directors. She volunteered in many church activities including funeral luncheons, money counter and card club.
Loretta loved traveling with Joe. They visited many states & several countries. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting and most of all spending time with her family: children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Gary (Carol) Swan, Jim (Terry Higgins), Jean (Jim) Wurster all of Tomahawk; Rob (Lisa) Swan of Gleason; Stacie (Steve) Cotey of Grafton and daughter-in-law Nancy Swan of Tomahawk; sisters Ceil Roberts and Connie Gavin both of Tomahawk and further survived by 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and sister-in-laws Kathy Swan and Rosie Swan.
Loretta was preceded in death by her loving husband Joe of 66 years and her son Mike Swan; son-in-law Garry Keip; her parents and brother Pete VanHarpen and sister Estelle Renn.
Visitation for Loretta will be held on Sunday, October 26th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Krueger-Nimsgern Funeral Home and on Monday, October 27th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made in Loretta’s name to St. Mary’s Catholic School.
