Lifelong resident, Lorna Jean Bowers, 86, of
Manistique, MI, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 4, 2025. Lorna passed away peacefully at her daughter's home where she resided for the past couple of years with her daughters Susan and Amy by her side. Lorna was born on May 6, 1938, to Dourward 'Bud' and Marguerite (Bryant) LaVance. Lorna graduated from Manistique High School in 1956 and enjoyed many years of friendship with her dear friends Sherry Varnum and Katherine Anderson.
In July of 1957, Lorna married the late Patrick John Bowers and raised her family consisting of one son and five daughters. She was primarily a stay-at-home mom and poured her life into raising her six children. Lorna loved canning, cooking and baking and was famous for her homemade bread and barbecue sauce. Lorna was a kindhearted woman who loved nothing more than a house full of family and friends to entertain and cook for. When Pat died in 1987, she pursued her CNA certification and was employed by Northwoods Home Nursing and Hospice. Lorna loved her job taking care of her patients until her marriage to Herbert W. Bowers in 1994. Lorna was a loving soul who genuinely cared about everyone she met.
Lorna is survived by her children, Allan Bowers, Angela (Dennis) Pierce, Susan (Larry Krummich), Patricia (Henry) Hardy, Amy (Ken) Seeley and stepdaughter Shanley Bowers. Along with a sister Linda (Steve) Holladay, brother-in-law Franklin Sr. Bowers, a special niece, Chryl Bowers and many treasured nieces and nephews.
Further, Lorna is survived by 14 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jonathan) Grzych, Stephanie (Steve) Kopischke, Timothy (Chelsea) Pierce, Brittney Pierce, Jessica McMillan, Tabitha (Alex) Pepin, Jeremy (Maury) Hardy, Matthew (Sarah) Hardy, Andrew Hardy, Jonathan Seeley, Kyle Seeley, Donnis Seeley, Briseis Seeley and Sonja Coleman; 16 great-grandchildren, Alex and Eleanor Shepley, Keiren and Wren Grzych, Tyler and Christopher Powell, Dominic Pierce, Caitlyn and Connor McMillan, Waylon Pepin, Owen and Octavia Hardy, Marnie and Daphne Hardy, Berkley and Brinley Hardy.
Preceding Lorna in death was her husband of 30 years, Pat Bowers, daughter, Pamela Gay Bowers, parents Dourward and Marguerite LaVance, in-laws Wells and Hazel Bowers, sisters and their husbands Donna (Frank) Manial and Nina (Leonard) Nedeau, husband Herbert Bowers, great-grandson Nicholas Powell, sister-in-law Connie and her husband Ed Matschnig, sister-in-law Dorothy and her husband Patrick Letson. Sister-in-laws Lori Bowers and Sonja Bowers.
On Lorna's request, no funeral services will be taking place. Only a graveside memorial will be conducted at Fairview Cemetery on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 10:30 am with Pastor Dick Bullock presiding and a luncheon to follow at the First Baptist Church,
Manistique, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Lorna's honor to the Seul Choix Pointe Lighthouse roof project.
