Lowell Douglas "Possum" Morgan, a cherished member of the community and a devoted family man, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on February 8, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, Lowell lived a life dedicated to hard work and family love.
For 33 years, Lowell was a dedicated coal miner, working for Shamrock Coal Co. and Bledsoe Coal Co. His commitment to his career showcased not only his strong work ethic but also his loyalty to those he served alongside in the mining community.
Beyond his professional life, Lowell will be remembered for his deep affection for his family. He loved spending quality time with them and took great joy in being involved in their lives. He is survived, by his two sons, Joshua Morgan (LaMecia) of Bledsoe, KY, and Jordan Morgan (Stacy) of Bledsoe, KY, as well as his daughter, Heather Morgan (Casey Turner) of Stanton, KY. The mother of his children, Stella Morgan of Bledsoe, KY, by a stepson, Daniel Morgan of Stinnett, KY, and a stepdaughter, Adria Morgan (Nico Lewis) of Hoskinston, KY. and his companion and mother of his step children, Tammy Morgan of Stinnett, KY
Lowell's legacy extends to his siblings, who include three brothers: Gregg Simpson (Rhoda) of Asher, KY, Gerney Pennington of Hyden, KY, and Ricky Simpson (Beverly) of Alabama, along with one sister, Vickie Roberts (Howard) of Bear Branch, KY. He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren: Maverick Morgan, Pheonix Morgan, Ryland Morgan, Jocelyn Morgan, Chaten Jackson, Cheyenne Roark ( Aaron Wooton), Bentley Turner, Brantley Turner, Greyson Lewis and Miley Lewis.
In addition to his immediate family, Lowell is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends who will carry his memory forward.
Lowell was a man of simple pleasures; he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he could often be found watching westerns and wrestling, activities that brought him comfort and happiness. His infectious spirit and loving nature will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lowell Morgan and Chloe Gross Simpson, his grandson, Ashton Bailey, and one brother, Larry Morgan.
As we remember Lowell Douglas "Possum" Morgan, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life full of love, hard work, and treasured moments with family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
Funeral: Monday, October 28, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden Kentucky
Interment: Morgan-Collins Family Cemetery, (Upper Grassy Branch Road) Essie, Kentucky
Officiating Minister: John Pugh
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers along with Gregg Simpson, Howard Roberts, Casey Turner & Aaron Wooton.
Visitation: Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 6:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home Chapel
