Luann, 59, passed away June 3, 2025. She was born in Seattle in April of 1966. She was adopted shortly after her birth. Her parents were devoted to her and sought out the best care for her until their last days. They were proud of her and all she accomplished in her life. They waited for her phone call each day for an update on what she was doing at Community House, what good deals she had gotten at the store, and how many pennies she had found.
She grew up in Kirkland with her younger sister and brother. She attended school and although classes were hard for her, she did very well in art. She loved drawing, painting and became very good at calligraphy. She spent summers camping, swimming, riding bikes, and going to Vacation Bible School. But she preferred fall when it wasn't so hot and she didn't have to worry about getting sunburned. Fall is also when soccer started. She played fullback for the #1 youth league team where she was known for her very powerful kicks. After graduation Luann moved to her Seattle apartment. She loved her place and shared her space with many cats she loved over the years. She attended Community House most days, searching for pennies on the way there and back. She liked to meet up with her friends for lunch, play a game of cards, check in with staff, and attend the group of the day - Art class, news letter, yoga, and music appreciation where she got to bring in a CD each week and play a song or two of her choice. As she became a long-time member she was asked to run the group meeting, being so shy she initially didn't want to do it, but it turned into something she really enjoyed. Then she was encouraged to sing Karaoke and surprisingly this also turned into something she loved. Yet another reason to go through her CD collection and pick a song to sing. I think the people from the House would tell you it was usually Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She also enjoyed the monthly birthday celebrations and holiday parties and the yearly summer picnic where she would make a new tie dye shirt.
Her family will remember her uncanny knack for sending your birthday card out to arrive exactly on your birthday. She was also the family historian. With her excellent memory she could recall what happened on a particular day right down to what everyone was wearing. Another example, she could tell you what she got for Christmas in 1978 and who gave it to her. That is hard to confirm because, who remembers that? She was an excellent Aunt and loved her niece and nephews. She was happy to sit and watch whatever they were doing as long as they wanted and, again, didn't forget a birthday card with "a little something in it."
She will be remembered for her childlike innocence, the love she had for her friends, family and music. And cats. When you hear a Queen, ELO, or Olivia Newton-John song, think of Luann. She would want you to turn up the volume.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 21st, 11:00 AM at the Chapel of the Resurrection Funeral Home.
