Luella Mae Welch of Haddam, Kansas, passed away on June 25, 2025, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson, at the age of 90. She was born on September 29, 1934, on a farm near Morrowville, Kansas, to Clarence and Minnie Miller Terpening. She completed eighth grade at Lowe Center School, a one room schoolhouse.
On November 26, 1955, she married Edwin Welch at the Haddam United Methodist Church. Together Edwin and Luella had a diversified farming and livestock operation with Luella having a very active role in the work. After Edwin passed away in May 2001, Luella had continued involvement in farming with their sons, Kenneth and Dennis.
Luella was an active volunteer in the Haddam community for nearly 70 years and was a member of the Haddam United Methodist Church.
Survivors include children Glenda (Curt) Thompson, Hutchinson; Kenneth (friend Gelene Savage) Welch, Haddam; and Dennis (Susan) Welch, Haddam. She is also survived by grandchildren Michael (Keelie) Welch and their daughters Kwynci, Sylvie, and Byrtie, and son, Tripp; Kyle (Mallory) Thompson and their daughter, Nora; Korey (Jordynn) Welch and their daughter, Karlee; Laura (Andrew) Goering and their daughter, Molly; and Nathan (Natalie) Welch and their daughter, Ella.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation is planned for Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Her funeral will be held at the Haddam United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 3, at 10:00 a.m. with Randy Paugh officiating. Burial will be in the Haddam City Cemetery.
Memorials are requested to the Luella Welch Memorial to benefit the Haddam community and may be mailed to Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, PO Box 566, Belleville, KS 66935.
