Luigi "Louis" Araneo of New Milford was 92 years old when he passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025. Born in Pescopagano, Italy, Louis immigrated to the United States in 1950, living in Hackensack, NJ. Inspired by his Father's experience of spending 10 years as a Prisoner of War, Louis proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He served at Fort Dix before deploying to Germany, he was later honorably discharged in 1958. After his military service, Louis returned to Italy, where he would meet the love of his life, Margherita Lotano. The couple would later return to the United States and marry in 1971. In 1977, they settled in New Milford to raise their family. Louis was a true craftsman who learned his woodworking skills from his Father. He made beautiful custom cabinets, one of a kind violins, and many different projects for surrounding churches and corporations throughout New Jersey and the East Coast - only things a true craftsman could make. He was passionate about coaching his boys in soccer throughout their childhood and watching soccer, enjoyed gardening, and watching his favorite cooking shows. His favorite shows were All in the Family and Everyone Loves Raymond. In his retirement, Louis was active in New Milford as a School Crossing Guard for many years. His love of his grandchildren Sofia, Ariana and Nico were his biggest highlights throughout his retirement.
Louis was predeceased by his late parents Lorenzo and Lena (Mazzeo) Araneo. He is survived by his beloved wife Margherita (Lotano) Araneo, his loving sons Lorenzo Araneo and his wife Karen and Giovanni Araneo and his wife Angela. He is the devoted brother of Angela Cuneo and her husband John Cuneo. He is the cherished grandfather of Sofia, Ariana, and Nico. Louis is also survived by his dear nephew John Cuneo and his wife Nicole and their son RJ Cuneo.
