Luther Ray Funderburk, Sr., 94, of Lufkin, was born on March 14, 1931, in Florien, Louisiana, to the late Luther Hall Funderburk and Vera (Miller) Funderburk, and died Sunday, July 13, 2025, in Lufkin.
Mr. Funderburk was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, known as "PaPa" by his family. He was ordained as a deacon in 1957 at Westside Baptist Church in Shreveport and faithfully served for many years. He enjoyed cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, eating Oreos, and spending time with his family. He had special patience for raising calves, often bottle-feeding them with care. Mr. Funderburk had a true gift for gardening and was able to make everything grow.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years Norma Funderburk, of Lufkin; son and wife, Ray Funderburk, Jr and Carolyn Funderburk of Lufkin; daughter and husband, Ann and Gary Griffin of Lufkin; daughter and husband, Linda and George Hamilton of Lufkin; daughter, Susan Stubblefield of Lufkin; daughter and husband, Terry and Michael Beathard of Wells; grandchildren, Christie, Holly, Christopher, Trampus, and Trent; great-grandchildren, Dean, Erica, Rhea, and Riley; and great great-grandchildren, Lilah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Aaron Stubblefield; and son-in-law, Tommy Stubblefield.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at CHI and Castle Pines Nursing Home.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
