Lyle G. Baker, 89, Platteville, WI died Tuesday, July 1, 2025. He was born July 7, 1935, in Harrison Township, the son of Roy and Gladys (Palmer) Baker. Lyle graduated from Platteville High School where he lettered in track. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Bellmeyer on November 26, 1955, at the First English Lutheran Church in Platteville, WI.
Lyle not only farmed all his life, but also drove milk truck for Potosi Cheese Factory, worked for Dubuque Pack for 13 years and then drove semi for Paul Cullen, Freymiller Trucking, Wisconsin Dairies, and Korth. Before retirement, he was a patrolman for Harrison Township. Lyle and Marilyn loved to travel and were able to enjoy trips to Alaska, Hawaii and Branson to name a few. Lyle liked to ride around on his side-by-side. He did some woodworking, welding and cutting wood. Lyle was a deer and turkey hunter. He also enjoyed going canoeing and to water ski.
Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, son, Dennis Baker, daughter, Debra Davies, grandchildren; Jessica Davies, Nikki (Randon) Huber, Lucas Gorman and Alicia (Brett) Coulthard; one great-granddaughter, Rylee Jean Coulthard; brother-in-law, Earle Bellmeyer; sister-in-law, Beverly Rowswell; and nieces and nephews. Lyle was preceded in death by two daughters, Denise Bast and Deanne Gorman, grandson, Stacey Bast, his parents, brother, Bill (Betty) Baker, sister, Gertie (Paul) Morehouse, sister-in-law, Jean Bellmeyer, brother-in-law, Robert Rowswell and his dog, Mandi.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate. Burial will be at the Whig Cemetery, rural Platteville. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
