Graveside services for Lynn Patrick Wood, 77, of Garrison, TX, will be held at 4:30 PM, on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Wood-Snell Cemetery outside Broaddus, TX, with Bro. Benjamin Wood officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the graveside from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Garrison Funeral Home.
Lynn Patrick Wood, otherwise known as "Woody", was born on January 22, 1948, in San Augustine, TX to Ewel Thomas Wood and Marjorie Kathryn (Wells) Wood. He passed from this world peacefully on April 2, 2025, in Tyler, TX after a prolonged illness.
Lynn graduated from Silsbee High School in 1966, then promptly left to join the United States Air Force. He served four years, including deployment to Vietnam, before returning to attend Stephen F. Austin State University in 1970. At SFA, he studied forestry, joined the Sylvans, and met the love of his life, Janna. Ultimately, Woody decided college wasn't for him, and he rejoined the Air Force in 1973. This choice led to a 22-year long career in avionic mechanics, working on fighter jets and flight simulators.
Lynn married Janna Rae York of Tyler on July 6, 1974. During his time in the military, they moved all over the country, living in Nevada, Illinois, Arizona, Arkansas, and Alaska. During this time they had 3 children. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Lynn and Janna made their home in Garrison, TX, closer to both their families. Woody went to work at ACME Brick as a burning supervisor, remaining with the company in different positions for 20 years, until he retired when the Garrison plant was closed. After retiring twice, he still wasn't ready for the quiet life, and went to work for Harry's Building Materials for around 3 years before medical issues forced him to slow down to just working his side gig of making and selling wooden toys at area festivals.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, E.T. and Marjorie "Betty" Wells.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Janna Rae York Wood of Garrison, son Benjamin "Benjy" Wood of Plano, TX, Laura Zink Wood of Plano, TX, daughter Kathryn "Katie" Wood Rogers and husband Wade "Matt" Rogers of Hawkins, TX, son William "Will" Wood and fiancé Amy Luchini of Royse City, TX, and his favorite "child" Bullet; grandsons Ethan Wood of Lincoln, NE and Eyob Wood of Plano, TX and granddaughters Sarah Wood of Plano, TX and Amelia Rogers of Hawkins, TX. He is survived by younger sisters Lisa Park of Springhill, LA, Brenda Shaddox (and husband Tom) of Plano, TX, and Patricia Burgess (and husband David) of Raleigh, NC and elder sister Trish Bowen (and husband Ronnie) of Ft. Worth, TX.
