Lyonel Flegel Obituary

Lyonel Flegel, 96, of Kulm, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Wishek Hospital.
Lyonel was born October 1, 1928, to Dan and Mona (Elliot) Flegel and grew up on the family farm northwest of Kulm. He was the ninth of ten siblings.
He graduated from Kulm High School in 1948, then began working on the family farm, which he operated with his brother, Bryce. They raised Hereford and Charolais-Hereford cattle, milked dairy cattle and raised alfalfa, small grains and silage corn.
He joined the U.S. Army on October 8, 1951, and served in Korea until July 1, 1953, shipping from Ft. Lewis, Washington. He left the military as a corporal.
He served on the Kulm school board for a number of years, including several terms as president, and was a member of the American Legion.
He married Marjorie Miller June 12, 1955. They were married for 68 years, living on the family farm near Kulm, and had four children; Kelly, Crystal, Kurt and Luann. They both moved to the Wishek Living Center in November 2018.
Lyonel is survived by his four children, Kelly, Crystal (Mark) Forster, Kurt Flegel and Luann Dart; five grandchildren, Shana Forster, Reid Forster, Shelby (Nate) Kirkwold, Logan (Becca) Flegel, and Sam Dart; four great-grandchildren, Aidan and Ella Pederson, Sydney Kirkwold, and Bryce Flegel. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his parents, all his siblings, Zona Kalmbach, Sicilyann Fischer, Eloyse Lerno, Seaton Flegel, Winston Flegel, Elliot Flegel, Bryce Flegel, Morland Flegel and York Flegel and his son-in-law Samuel Dart.
A Memorial Service is planned for May 3, 2025 at the Kulm Congregational Church at 1:00 PM.
