Madathil Mepurathu John Kurian, affectionately known as M. J. Kurian or "Joy," passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on July 4, 2025, at Baylor Heart Hospital.
Born in Mallappally, Kerala, India, Joy lived a life full of faith, love, and quiet strength. In 1985, he moved to the United States, where he and his wife built a home filled with warmth and devotion. He lived for many years in Kankakee, Illinois, before moving to Murphy, Texas, to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Joy was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished brother. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Lily (Aleyamma Kurian); his sons Reji (Mable) Kurian and Jiji (Manna) Kurian; and his adored grandchildren Josiah, Leah, Esther, Anna, Zoe, Ruhi, and Luca Kurian.
He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: M. J. Mathew (Thampi), M. J. Abraham (Babu), Raju John, and Aleyamma Abraham (Molly), along with many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness and faith.
Joy deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. He had a gentle heart for animals of all kinds and always welcomed pets and wildlife alike with affection. He was also an avid gardener, and his flourishing vegetable garden was admired by neighbors and visitors alike as a reflection of his patience and care.
Known for his gentle demeanor, steadfast faith, and generous spirit, Joy leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed, but his life and love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
