Mabel Cordova, 88 went home to our lord peacefully at her home Tuesday July 15, 2025. She was born April 4, 1937 to the home of Jesus Moncayo and Paublita Romero Moncayo in Puerto De Luna, New Mexico. Mabel and her siblings lived in the Puerto De Luna and Santa Rosa area attending school in Santa Rosa. She moved to California for several years and Albuquerque before returning to Santa Rosa. She met and married Pete Cordova and together they made their home in Santa Rosa. Mabel worked almost her whole adult life as a waitress for local restaurants at Tiffin’s, for Phillip Craig and Floyd Shaw at the Club Café, Walkers Dairy Bar, for Manuel Medley then with Johnny Martinez at the Comet Restaurant and McDonalds.
Mabel and her husband Pete enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and hunting with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for the family when they gathered, preparing their home for the holidays and special occasions creating memorable and cherished moments. She took special satisfaction accompanying her husband Pete on weekend excursions exploring for artifacts, many times with family and friends.
Mabel is preceded in death by her friend and husband Pete Cordova, daughters Cindy and Debbie Salazar, an infant son Mark Salazar, her parents Jesus and Paublita Romero Moncayo, her sisters Helen Moncayo and Anicia Moncayo Campos, her brothers Leandro Lee Moncayo and Abel Moncayo, son-in-law Ruben Chavez, Father and Mother In-Law Andalecio and Bicentita Cordova, In-laws Pat Cordova, Manuel and Dora [Cordova] Baca, and Miguel Porras Salazar.
Survivors include Son Peter Salazar and Linda Dodge of Santa Rosa, Daughter Mary Jane Chavez of Santa Rosa, Daughter Yolanda and Ian Serrano of Santa Rosa, Son Daryl and Jennifer Cordova of Tijeras, NM, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, Brother Gilbert (Gil) and Patrica Moncayo of Albuquerque NM, Brother Jesus (Chio) and Lucille Moncayo of Tallahassee Fl., Sister Elvie and Mike Lowery of Novato CA. Sisters in-law Beatrice (Cordova) Salazar, Erinea Cordova, Dorothy and her husband Adolph Romero, Francis and her husband Carlos Aguilar, and Juanita and her husband Paul Tapia. Brothers in-law James (Bozo) and his wife Ann Cordova, Andy (Brody) Cordova, and Michael and his wife Patricia Cordova, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended relatives, neighbors and loving friends Albert and Rita Gallegos of Rio Rancho.
Catholic rite of comital of her cremains will be held on Saturday July 26, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa with James Bozo Cordova and Albert and Rita Gallegos serving as Urn Bearers. Honorary Urn Bearers are all her grandchildren.
