Madaline Marie (Lightfield) Thompson was born on May 27, 1934, near Alex, Oklahoma, to Clarence Arthur Lightfield and Nellie Lora Marie (Joslin) Lightfield. She left this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.

When Madaline was a small child, her family moved to Berkeley, California, where her dad worked as a welder in a ship-building factory. The family moved back to Oklahoma when Madaline was about 12 years old. Although she missed California, she made the best of what she had in Oklahoma. At Meridian High School she was a softball and basketball star, helping her basketball team reach the state tournament while leading the team in scoring, rebounds, and steals.

Madaline met her future husband, Homer, at a Grady County basketball tournament. The couple were married on January 21, 1953. At the time of their wedding, Homer was a senior at Oklahoma A & M and Madaline was working at the telephone company in Chickasha. The couple's first child, Gary, was born in Germany in 1955 while Homer was in the Army. David and Edward were both born in Lindsay, the nearest hospital to their home in Alex, where Homer worked in the local bank. The family moved to Cyril in 1962, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Madaline was a great mother. A "stay-at-home mom", her family was her top priority. She made sure her family had clean clothes, three good meals each day, and a safe and clean place to call home. She was there for most every sporting event–not only while her boys were in school, but for decades afterwards. Homer and Madaline celebrated almost every anniversary by attending basketball games. She even had a dedicated seat at the Cyril gym. Madaline enjoyed camping and water skiing at Fort Cobb Lake and Chickasha Lake. After the boys were grown, she stayed active by doing woodworking projects with her friend, Ellen Wise. In later years, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

Madaline put her faith in God. She accepted Jesus as her savior at a young age, and she served Him faithfully for the rest of her life. She would read the Bible to her three boys before the bus picked them up for school. She made sure her "stairstep boys" looked sharp when she took them to church. She served as a teacher in Sunday School, Training Union, and Vacation Bible School. She made sure all of her children and grandchildren knew the good news of Jesus Christ, and she has been a member of the Cyril First Baptist Church for over 60 years.

Madaline was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Leroy and Joe. She is survived by Homer, her husband of 72 years; her three sons, Gary and his wife, Phyllis, of Cement; David and his wife, Debbie, of Cyril; Edward and his wife, Gayla, of Oklahoma City; 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Celestial Gardens Cemetery in Cyril, under the direction of Fletcher Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Family will be present to greet friends and guests.
