Margaret McKay Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Doherty Funeral Homes, Inc. - Pike Creek on Jan. 3, 2025.
It is with great sadness to say our Beloved Margaret (Peg) McKay has made the final transition to be with her loving husband John.
(Peg) passed away on December 31st surrounded by her loving children and family. Peg was born in Wilmington, DE on April 1st, 1952. The daughter of the late James and Helen Setting, she attended Padua Academy graduating in 1970. A beacon of light to all who knew her, a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Sister who enjoyed life with her family in every way. She resided with her son's family in Greensburg, PA for a good portion of her senior years and loved the open country and beautiful scenery of the Laurel Highland Mountains.
Peg was married to the late John McKay, they had two children, Jack (Anna) and Kate (Sarah) and were blessed with three grandchildren, Ali, Cullen and Zoey. She was the ever loving and always present grandparent spending copious time with them. An independent woman who feared almost nothing, it was nothing for her to make the drive between Greensburg and Wilmington to visit her extended family.
When she had the time Peg loved watching thoroughbred racing, caring more for the horses than the bet. You were always in for a good time when you spent an afternoon with her at Delaware Park. A big Notre Dame football fan, and always cheered for the Eagles. She loved spending time with her sisters and especially enjoyed an annual trip to the mountains with them for good food, some petty card games and memorable times.
Peg is survived by eight brothers and two sisters; James (Mary Ann), Dennis (Mary Ellen), Larry (Paula), Theresa (Earl), Catherine (Robert), George (Maureen), Anthony (Debbie), Robert (Carla), Elmer (Deborrah), Thomas (Rebecca). Peg was also loved by numerous cousins, especially Carol who was like a sister to her, and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery. Please omit flowers at the request of Peg. Memorial contributions in Peg's name can be made to Food Bank of Delaware, 222 Lake Dr., Newark, DE 19702 or visit www.fbd.org.
