Margaret M. Rodgers, lovingly known as Peggy, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on October 20, 1947, in Boston, Massachusetts, Peggy's life was a beautiful testament to kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and faith.
Peggy graduated from Ursuline Academy in Dedham, Massachusetts, in 1965, and went on to earn her degree from Cardinal Cushing College in Boston in 1969. That same year, she married the love of her life, Al Rodgers. Together, they moved to Essex, Vermont, in 1970, where Peggy began her long and impactful career as a math teacher at Essex Junction High School. She later earned her Master's of Education from St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont. Deeply respected by her students and colleagues, she was recognized as a Natural Mentor for her dedication, compassion, and positive influence.
In 2004, Peggy and Al moved to Jericho, Vermont, where she continued to enjoy the simple joys of life. A talented quilter and avid puzzle enthusiast, she loved playing Sudoku and solitaire, tending to her garden, and spending cherished time with her family. A devout Christian, Peggy's life was centered around her faith and the people she loved most, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Al Rodgers; her children, Skip Rodgers (wife Kristen), Greg Rodgers (wife Alma), and Cathy Stetz (husband Jason); and her treasured grandchildren, David, Austin, and Aiden Rodgers, and Ruby and Christian Stetz. She also leaves behind her siblings, Jean King, Philip Maguire (wife Denise), and Anne Hynes (husband Tom); her sisters-in-law, Beverly and Pam Rodgers; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Paul Unger and Dr. Jesse Moore for the compassionate care they provided Peggy.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 18, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Ready Funeral Home Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Drive, Essex, Vermont. A funeral service celebrating Peggy's life will take place on Saturday, July 19, at 10:30 AM at Essex United Methodist Church, Essex, Vermont. A reception at the church will follow the service, and all are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peggy's memory may be made to Aunt Dot's Place, 51 Center Road, Essex, Vermont, or COTS Homeless Shelter, 95 North Avenue, Burlington, Vermont.
Peggy will be remembered always for her kind heart, loving spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
