Margaret Ruth Scoggins, age 92, of Marietta passed away peacefully July 13, 2025.
Margie was born to Raymond Gilstrap and Hattie Ogle Gilstrap in Atlanta, GA. A true Atlanta native, her early years were shaped by attending the Baptist Tabernacle on Luckie Street, strolling down Whitehall (now Peachtree Street), and graduating from O'Keefe High School.
Margie was a woman of many talents. She distinguished herself as the "Cookie Lady" at Waffle House by repeatedly tantalizing employees with an array of baked goods. Any dish she laid her hands upon came out delicious and baked with love. Margie had a knack for parties and enjoyed her time hosting family get-togethers. When the family owned a drapery business, Margie was the glue that held the operation together because she hand-made every order. She was a wonderful seamstress and her talents for sewing also extended to tailor-made clothes. Many happy memories were made when she ran Country Collections Gift Shop, a store that she and Clyde owned in Royston. Margie was generous, family oriented, and a joy to be around, and she will be deeply missed by all who love her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Morgan Scoggins; sisters, Estelle Allgood and Lenora Newell; daughter, Terri Lee Scoggins; and step-daughter, Teni Gray.
Margie is survived by her beloved daughter, Deb Veal-Hoover (Joey) of Dallas; partner and love of her life for 38 years, Clyde Vaughn of Royston; stepdaughters, Peggy Roland (Sammy) and Sabrina Agurto (Alfredo); and many beloved extended family, friends, and outdoor cats, whom she doted upon.
A memorial service honoring Margie's life will be held Saturday, July 26, 2:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM before the service.
