Margaret "Nana" Wright, 89, peacefully entered the arms of her Savior, surrounded by love and prayer. Her life was a testament to deep faith, boundless compassion, and generous love - a true reflection of God's grace in action.
Born on May 25, 1936, in Sevierville, Tennessee, to Minnie Canup and Joshua Canup, Margaret grew up in a large, blended family. She was the last surviving daughter of her generation, a matriarch remembered for her strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family.
At just 16 years old, she married the love of her life, Claude "Poppy" Wright, in March 1953. Together, they shared over 60 years of marriage filled with commitment, laughter, and enduring love. Poppy preceded her in death in January 2017, and now they rest reunited in peace.
Margaret and Claude made their home in East Tennessee, Michigan, and Southern California, raising their family with faith, discipline, and joy. As a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret's love was a sanctuary, a place where everyone felt safe, seen, and nourished. Her home was a welcoming haven where no visitor left hungry.
Cooking was one of Margaret's greatest joys. She approached it with passion and care, turning simple meals into feasts. Her love for food was only matched by her love of sharing it. And if you ever caught her at the marble game table, you knew it was serious business, a place where her competitive spirit shone through with a winning smile.
Margaret was a lifelong learner, returning to school later in life to earn two master's degrees. She taught school for over 40 years, a proud testament to her belief that "there are two things in life that can't be taken from you: your salvation and your education."
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, inspiring a heart that sought to heal and uplift others. Margaret's selflessness was evident in her extensive work with drug rehabilitation ministries, especially Turning Point. She was a beacon of hope for those battling addiction, offering unwavering support, encouragement, and prayers, always with compassion, never judgment. Strangers quickly became family under her care.
She is survived by her loving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends, including her best friend Brenda, who shared countless laughs and cherished memories over the years.
Margaret "Nana" Wright's life was marked by love, laughter, service, and profound spiritual strength. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in every life she touched, every meal she prepared, every prayer she whispered, and every marble game she won with grace and a smile.
