Margarete "Rita" Conway (Lauterbach), age 96, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, in Burnsville, Minnesota.
Born on February 15, 1929, in Bayreuth, Germany, Rita lived a vibrant and full life that spanned nearly a century. She was the daughter of Johann and Katharina Lauterbach and grew up alongside her siblings Henry, Marta, Karl, and Rudi. Her early years in Germany shaped her enduring love for culture, tradition, and the simple joys of life.
Rita traveled to England where she met her husband Russell and together, they explored the world throughout his 20 years in the Air Force. Eventually they made their way to Colorado, where she continued her beautiful life with her beloved husband. Together they created a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. Rita had a natural gift for hospitality-she was known far and wide for hosting extravagant dinner parties that brought people together over delicious meals and lively conversation. A fabulous cook with an eye for detail and a heart for celebration, she made every gathering feel special.
Her passions were as diverse as they were joyful. Rita loved to golf and ski-activities that reflected her zest for life-and she found peace in gardening and drawing. Traveling brought her great happiness, allowing her to explore new places while deepening her appreciation for beauty in all its forms. In later years, she cherished quiet moments spent on the deck watching nature unfold around her.
Rita also had a spirited side: she was an avid football fan who cheered faithfully for her Denver Broncos and never missed an episode of General Hospital. These simple pleasures brought rhythm to her days and connected her to the world around her.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Elona (Raymond); brother Karl (Renate); grandchildren Jarod (Barb), Tyler (Hannah), and Raediance (Levi); as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who carry forward the legacy of her warmth and vitality.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents Johann and Katharina; husband Russell; brother Henry; brother Rudi; and sister Marta.
A woman of grace, strength, elegance, and boundless energy, Rita touched many lives through both grand gestures and quiet kindnesses. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
A private ceremony will be held to celebrate Rita's life later this summer.
