Margarita G. Hernandez, age 78, of Sweetwater, Texas, (Former resident of Haskell, Texas), passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025 at her residence.
Family will receive friends at Cate - Spencer & Trent Funeral Home, Sweetwater, Texas, on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 6:00 - 7:00 PM.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 11, 2025 at Willow Cemetery in Haskell, Texas, with Teri Spalding officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Margarita was born on April 13, 1947 in Jalpan, Queretaro, Mexico to Eucario and Alberta (Cano) Garcia. She married Juan Jose Hernandez on October 2, 1982 in Vici, Oklahoma. She owned and operated Texas Burrito Express in Haskell, Texas. She was a member of the Catholic Church. Margarita was a devoted mother, proud grandmother who loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family.
She was known for her warm heart and even warmer kitchen, where she created countless memories through her delicious cooking.
Margarita had a gift for bringing people together with her meals. Whether it was a holiday feast or a simple weeknight dinner, her table was always full of love and laughter. Her recipes, often passed down through generations, were more than just instructions; they were stories, traditions, and a testament to her unwavering love for her family.
She is survived by her family who will continue to cherish her memory and carry on her culinary legacy. Her recipes will live on, and her spirit will forever be felt in the kitchen, where she taught us that the best ingredient in any dish is always love.
She is survived by three sons, Abraham Gonzalez and wife Theresa of Hamlin, Texas, David Gonzalez of Haskell, Texas, and Elvis Gonzalez and wife Vickie of Sweetwater, Texas; daughters, Alejandra (Alex) Figueroa and husband Enrique of Sweetwater, Texas, Maria Pierce of Haskell, Texas and Luz Rivera and husband Alfonso Contreras; twenty two grandchildren; thirty four great grandchildren; brother, Gonzalo Garcia of McAllen, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eucario and Alberta Garcia; husband, Juan Jose Hernandez; and three brothers, Eligio Garcia and infant twin brothers.
Pallbearers will be Abraham Gonzalez, III, Drew Barnard, Marco Gonzalez, Carlos Gonzalez, John Paul Calvillo, and Kiefer McNelly.
Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Squire, Christian Gonzalez, and Joshua Gonzalez.
