Maria A. Ferguson, 68, of Emporia, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
She was the daughter of the late Maurice and Theresa Ferguson and she was also preceded in death by her best buddy; her beloved canine companion of 17 years, Dana.
Maria was a nurse in the Emporia area for 32 years and was a mentor to many nurses. She enjoyed her career and took pride in being able to pass her knowledge on to others who entered the nursing profession.
Maria is survived by a sister, Marcia Kieczkajlo (Bill Hocher, Jr.); a number of cousins and nephews and her beloved feline companion “Bootsie”.
She is also survived by her “adopted” sister, Barbara Allen and her husband, Gerald who were very dear to her and helped to take care of her until the very end.
Maria’s funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10 at Greensville Memorial Cemetery graveside at the mausoleum.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at Victory Fellowship Church, 200 S. Main St. in Emporia with a reception to follow in the church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, at Maria’s request, please make memorial contributions to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Victory Fellowship Church.
