Maria Renee Garrett, age 33, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 29, 1991, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Steven and Renee (Stevens) Garrett Sr. Maria was a 2010 graduate of Centerburg High School and attended the Knox County Career Center where she was also a member of the ROTC program.
Maria proudly served in the United States Army from 2014 to 2018 and graduated in 2024 from the Knox County Career Center in Cosmetology. She worked at Kroger's from 2013 to 2014 and from 2018 to present and recently with Freedom Transportation Enterprise. Maria enjoyed painting, diamond art, cardio drumming, shooting guns and was fascinated by the Highlander cow. Maria also enjoyed a good car ride and would immerse herself in music listening to the likes of Jelly Roll, Metallica and Avenged Sevenfold.
Besides her parents she is survived by her children, Marilou Alexa Garrett-Fike and Mayson Alexander Garrett-Fike, a brother, Steven (Ashley) Garrett Jr. of Ashland, paternal grandmother, Linda (Attwood) Garrett, nieces and nephews, Brett Harrison, Steven Garrett III, Bailee Harrison, Payton Garrett, Bristol Harrison, an uncle, Rickie (Teresa) Stevens Jr., an aunt, Cindy (Alex) Kelly, numerous cousins and friends she served with and not served with.
Maria was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Steven Garrett, maternal grandparents, Rickie and Mary (Hayes) Stevens.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025 beginning at 1pm at the Dayton National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on a day, time and place to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any monetary contributions be made through the Snyder Funeral Home website to offset funeral costs.
