MARIA SANCHEZ Obituary

MARIA E. SANCHEZ
November 18, 1943 - July 23, 2025
Maria E. Sanchez was called to her greater rewards on July 23.
Born to the late Maximilliano and Helen Ellis Sanchez on November 18, 1943, Maria graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in Albuquerque and completed a B.A. from the University of Nebraska. She also attended the University of New Mexico, where she was crowned the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.
Maria was the partner and wife of Signe I. Lindell for 28 years.
As a stewardess for TWA based in San Francisco, she traveled the world. As a high school teacher, she devoted herself to helping her students build a better life. As a model, she turned heads. And as a top-notch Realtor, she helped families build a future. Maria also served on numerous nonprofit boards.
She was an active, 49-year friend of Bill W., and she always told others to expect miracles.
Maria is survived by her wife, Signe I. Lindell; siblings, Max Sanchez, Karen Sanchez, and Kathy Pearce; daughter, Anne Nakon (Scott) of Ann Arbor, MI; son, Dante "Tres" Simi (Michelle) of Palmdale, CA; and two grandchildren, Max Nakon and Kali Simi.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria's honor to The Friendship Club or The Food Depot.
A celebration of Maria's life will be announced at a later date. Burial will take place in St. Mary's County, Maryland, alongside her grandmother.

Sig, I'm so sorry to hear about Maria's passing. I'm sending you a big hug and much love. Maria and you were two of the first wonderful people we met in Santa Fe, and you found us our fabulous home and community. Both Ed and I will never forget her smile, her warmth and her beautiful generous heart. I wish you peace and love during this time.

Stunned to see this. I took a class at the Santa Fe Community Foundation with Maria a number of years ago, and she was fun and delightful. Her participation made the whole thing more fun. I am so sorry for your loss.

Signe while I did not know your wife and partner in life. Anyone who spent 28 years of their life together had forged a very special relationship. May the sadness now always be brightened by the life you spent together.

Tia Maria! I have and will always love you dearly. You helped me to become a man aa´s teenager and even more importantly saved my life by helping me get sober. Your humor and love for me was and is absolutely priceless. I will carry your torch of recovery, love and kindness to others. Te amo Tia, verte mas tarde.

Signe, I am so sad your Maria has left you and her Earthly home... She is Happily gathered together with her family and friends in Heaven.

Maria provided me and my family with many years of Priceless memories..
My first was.. she had a turtle in her yard that she took care of.
From there I learned she loved rabbits. She had a keen eye for Southwest Pottery. I admired her sense of fashion.. most importantly her Native Jewelry. Her most delicious Flank Steak was 5 ´s .
I remember a fun afternoon at Ten Thousand Waves.. Maria, you and I had the best laughs ever that day! I went home with the worst sunburn of my life that day!
Maria, and my sister Signe, came here to spend a Christmas with us and our Mom. Her wit was priceless.. she provided me with my favorite all time expression.. it has never failed to get a laugh!
Maria and Signe together have been the best example of what a `Favorite Great Aunt´ is.
I could go on for hours about my memories.. Maria, I loved the trip we shared, you will be sadly missed.. as the familiar tune plays ... `Thanks for the Memories,´
May you now rest in peace.

With sadness and with love we extend our sincere condolences to Sig and family on Maria´s passing. What a bright intelligent woman who shared her beauty and laughter with us. I got to enjoy Maria´s company more this last Spring as we took water aerobics together at the SFCC. What trooper she was. I can still hear her voice and laughter. Enjoy the blessings of God Our Father Maria! Love.
