Marie Elaina Chesney, age 66, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 7, 1959, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Marie was the daughter of the late Valentine Szczesney and Marilyn Keyes.
Marie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her children, David (Corene) Chesney and Corey (Jennifer) Chesney; and her beloved grandchildren, Dasia Chesney, Aaryan Chesney, Kori Fletcher, Gerald Fletcher, Xavier Chesney, Xaiya Chesney, Julian Chesney, Jayden Chesney, Jackson Chesney, and Kaylee Chesney. She also leaves behind her sisters, Deborah (Bobby) Goff, Melanie (John) Harter, and Becky (John) Hunter; along with a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her grandchild Jacqueline Chesney, and the father of her children, David Groth.
Marie had a vibrant personality and a sense of humor that could light up any room. A true jokester, she loved to make people laugh and didn't mind saying exactly what was on her mind; she had no filter and everyone loved her all the more for it. She had a deep appreciation for scary movies and The Golden Girls. Her favorite phrase, "In a minute," became a signature response that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her best.
Marie was selfless, caring, and giving. Her family was her world, and she shared a special, unbreakable bond with her sisters. One of her favorite places to be was camping with them at Tri-Lake Trails in Marshall, where laughter, stories, and memories were always in abundance.
Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at a later date.
Rest in peace, little sister. Your love, laughter, and unforgettable spirit will remain with us always
