On Sunday, September 15, 2024, Marilyn Hill Brasher, 81, passed away peacefully at Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham, NC.
Marilyn was born on May 23, 1943, in Robeson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Oliver Monroe Hill and the late Docia Osborne Hill. Growing up on a farm, she learned the value of hard work, which later benefitted her as she advanced from a phone operator into management during her 30 year career with Southern Bell/Bell South/AT&T, in Charlotte.While attending church in Charlotte, she met the love of her life, and soon to be husband, Bill Brasher. After retiring, Marilyn and Bill moved to Bill's hometown of Fayette, AL, where Marilyn made many friends and was active in the community. She enjoyed church activities and particularly enjoyed working as a volunteer at The Help Center in Fayette. She also enjoyed reading and various crafts.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Susan Brasher Evans and husband Walt, along with their two children, Grace and Sam, and her brother-in-law, Dr. Joe P. Brasher.Marilyn was a big sister and "advisor" to her niece, Sonia McBride Scarboro (Charles) who also survive her. She had an especially close, grandmotherly relationship with her great nephews Aaron (Dr. Nikki Barczak-Scarboro, daughter Emma)and Adam Scarboro. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Myrtle Hudson Hill (Kenneth) along with numerous nieces and nephews.Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, William R. Brasher, siblings, John Oliver Hill, Sr., Shirley Hill McBride, Charles Donald Hill, Sr., KennethTemple Hill, Sr. and William Larry Hill, Sr.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Christian Center of Concern (The Help Center) PO Box 554; Fayette, AL 35555, or the charity of your choice, may be made.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 29, 2024 at Jones Springs Church Cemetery, in Ellerbe, NC, where Marilyn's body will rest next to her big sister, Shirley Hill McBride.
