Marilyn Campbell — lovingly known as our “Boss Lady” — passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 2nd at the age of 92. Born in Embarrass, MN, and later a longtime resident of Roseville, she lived her life with wit, strength, and unapologetic independence.
Marilyn had a gift for seeing people clearly. She could size you up in seconds, spoke with colorful honesty, and never tolerated crap — yet those who knew her best also saw the playful heart and generous spirit behind her steel. She filled her life with music, from playing accordion and polka dancing to sharing her love for Appalachian folk and the full cannon of classic rock-’n’-roll. She collected diecast ’50s cars, traveled the world, spoke fluent Finnish, and, with a little coaxing from her grandson, even wrote a memoir to capture it all.
She is survived by her grandchildren, David and Jennifer, who adored her and will carry her fire forward. She also bore the deep loss of her sister and daughter, Sharon, both gone too soon.
A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon, Monday, September 8, at Embarrass Cemetery, 7506 MN-135, Embarrass, MN 55732
Marilyn will be remembered not only for her sharp tongue and keen eye, but for the fierce love and unforgettable presence she brought into the lives of everyone lucky enough to know her.
