Marilyn Jordan Obituary

Marilyn Hinson Jordan peacefully entered her eternal rest on July 26, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Freeman and Cornelia Hinson, a brother, David Hinson, Sr., and her only son, Sean Jordan.

She was born September 26, 1954, in DeLand, Florida, and graduated from Deland High School, class of 1972. She received her Bachelor's degree at Bethune-Cookman College (now University), class of 1976, with a B.S. in Sociology. Upon graduation, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. She later moved back home to Deland and lived in her childhood home.

Marilyn was baptized at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age. She remained a faithful member until her death. She served as a member of the Steward Board, Usher Board, and Class Leader of Class #4. She was also a Co-Founder of the Bethel Empowerment Center, an organizer and Co-Chair of the Bethel Food Pantry Program, a Social Media Coordinator for Bethel, and a member of Bethel's dance ministry.

Marilyn was employed with the Volusia County School Board, Human Resources Office, and retired after 30 years in 2021. Before that, she was employed with General Motors in Atlanta for 15 years. She was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Chi Omega Chapter. Her hobbies over the years included crafting, jigsaw puzzles, etc., but watching football and basketball was her favorite pastime. Her favorite teams were the Jacksonville Jaguars in pro football and in pro basketball, the Golden State Warriors.

Marilyn leaves to cherish her memory: a daughter, Breanna Jordan, DeLand; three granddaughters: Davianna Thomas, Brea Thomas, and Laeyla Alexander. A sister, Dr. Rosalind Jones, two brothers, Freeman Hinson, Jr. (Helen); and Frederick Hinson, Sr. (Jasmine). Several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews; best friends and Sorority sisters, Sandra Clay and Carol Thames; A very dedicated, loving, and loyal significant other, Drayton L. Wright, Sr., Atlanta, GA.

Ivy Beyond the Wall services will be held by Tau Chi Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., on August 08, 2025, at J.E. Cusack Mortuary in Deland, FL.

Visitation services will be handled by Cusack Mortuary at 727 South Stone Street, Deland, FL 32720 on August 8th, 2025, 4:30

PM – 6:00 PM.
