Marilyn was born on May 31, 1937, to Hubert and Dorothy (Gray) Dorothy in rural Newton. Her family relocated to California but eventually returned to Newton where she graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1954. Marilyn began working at the Jasper County Savings Bank. She married the love of her life Don "Bud" Langmaid Jr. in Kellogg on December 1, 1956. The couple lived on the farm north of Newton. Marilyn was an excellent mother and farm wife. She was a member of the Wittemberg Church, Wittemberg Grange, Mother's Club, and the United Methodist Church in Newton. Marilyn loved spending time with her family, most especially her grandchildren. She loved to take them camping. She also enjoyed collecting coupons, writing to her pen pals, bus trips with Bud, and camping.
