Obituary for Mario Vicente Llobell
With great sorrow and deep love, we announce the passing of Mario Vicente Llobell, who died shortly after midnight on July 4th, 2025 at the age of 74. He fought a difficult and heartbreaking battle with lung cancer– one he met with strength, pride, and an unwavering love for his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; his son Vincent and daughter-in-law Paola; his daughter Linda; his stepdaughters Kimberly and her husband Brian, and Kelly; his stepson Anthony; and his six cherished grandchildren: Kayla, Samantha, Kelsey, Kenadi, Cameron, and Maximilian. He is also survived by his brother Carlos, sister-in-law Ophelia, niece Marina and her partner Ivana, nephew Federico, and his grand-nephew Vicente.
Mario was born on May 8th, 1951 in Miramar, Argentina, and was a loving son to Vicente and Josefina Rosa. As a young boy, he worked to help support his family, and in his teens, he worked aboard a fishing boat in Mar del Plata. At the age of 24, he immigrated to New York and began building his career as a professional painting contractor. He devotedly supported his family and returned to his hometown every winter to visit them.
Mario's love for family defined every chapter of his life. He and his first wife shared 18 years of marriage and raised their two children, Vincent and Linda, in East Norwich, NY. He was a devoted father who provided for his family and found joy in quality time with his children–fishing for bluefish in the Oyster Bay harbor, playing soccer and baseball in the backyard, teaching them to ride bikes, and barbecuing on summer days.
Years later, Mario found lasting companionship with Kathy, whom he met dancing one night and charmed her with his thick Argentine accent. They dated for over a decade, married in 2015, and built a beautiful extended family together, sharing a home filled with love, laughter, and the joy of grandchildren.
Over four decades of his working life,Mario built a thriving business–Mario's Professional Painting Company–and became a successful real estate investor, landlord, and owner of the Sol II beach club in Argentina. He was an intelligent businessman known for his exceptional work ethic, devotion to excellence, and the deep respect he earned from both customers and employees.
In retirement, Mario enjoyed many cups of coffee, offshore fishing trips, surfcasting from the Gilgo 4x4 Beach or Sore Thumb, learning how to golf, traveling, and spending time with family. Even in retirement, he stayed active– helping loved ones with home improvements, renovating properties, and always kept his toolbox close by.
He was a great man– loyal, generous, kind, and strong– who lived with purpose, gave of himself freely, and had the highest integrity. Mario never waited to be asked; he simply saw what needed to be done and did it. He was quietly dependable and endlessly selfless. He had an adventurous spirit, playful humor, and a deep well of love that he poured into the people and places around him.
More than anything, Mario loved his family and found great joy in his grandchildren. He also had a soft spot for dogs, caring for many four-legged companions over the years. He loved the ocean, cherished time spent fishing, and was always happy with a warm cup of coffee or scoop of gelato in hand.
We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support since Mario's health declined. Your love and support have meant the world to him and to all of us who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to one of the following 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, in honor of Mario's life and legacy:
Mario's presence, wisdom, and warmth will be deeply missed, but his love will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Though he is no longer with us in body, we will carry his spirit with us in every laugh shared, every story told, every quiet act of kindness, every wave, and every ocean breeze that rolls ashore. His story continues-in the lives he shaped, the homes he built, and the deep, enduring love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
