Marion Elizabeth Carter Ayers, age 84 of Buchanan, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Born in Buchanan on August 31, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Charles Russell "Bud" Carter, Sr. and the late Grace Brown Carter. In addition to her parents, Marion is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy Joe Ayers, her daughter, Lori Ayers, her granddaughter, Jenni Ayers, and her brothers, Charles Carter, Richard Carter, and Ralph Carter.
Marion, a graduate of Buchanan High School, was always proud of her hometown. As a teenager, she worked with her dad at "Bud's Cafe", a fixture in Buchanan, and later she worked for many years at the Arrow Shirt Company. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marion loved taking care of her family. She was an immaculate housekeeper and a wonderful cook. To her grandchildren, her chicken fingers were the best. Marion was extremely energetic and enjoyed staying busy working in her house or her yard. In her leisure time, she and Billy Joe enjoyed traveling the countryside camping, whether just the two of them or the whole family. Marion's faith kept her going, and she not only talked it, but walked her faith daily. A long time active member of Buchanan First Baptist Church, she served in many capacities. Her favorite ministry there was helping in the nursery, which she did until she was 80 years old. A Proverbs 31 woman, Marion will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Keith Ayers of Bremen, Tammy Mobley of Big Canoe, and Kevin (Carolyn) Ayers of Bremen; her precious grandchildren, Jared Ayers, Blake & Katie Mobley, Doug & Julia Ayers, Grant Mobley, Alli (Michael) Shaw, Mari Grace Ayers, and Carter Ayers; and her great-grandchildren: Jenni, Archer, Oliver, Cooper, Hazel, Graham, Avery and Andi. Also surviving are a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Marion Ayers will be conducted on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. from the Buchanan First Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Ayers and Rev. Dr. Allen Wilburn officiating. Interment will follow in the Edwards Cemetery in Buchanan with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Jared Ayers, Doug Ayers, Carter Ayers, Michael Shaw, Anthony Ayers, and Mark Ayers. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Ayers, Randy Carter, Ricky Carter, and Steve Williams.
The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Marion's name be sent to the Buchanan First Baptist Church Youth Group, PO Box 485, Buchanan, GA 30113
