Marion Mullin Obituary

MARION LUCILLE MULLIN
November 15, 1937 ˜ February 13, 2025

Marion Lucille Mullin, 87, of Vancouver, WA, passed away peacefully at Adventist Hospital on Feb. 13, 2025.
Born on Nov. 15, 1937, in Klamath Falls, OR, to James Aser Mullin and Vera Belle (Edwards) Mullin, Marion led a life of adventure from the time she was a small child climbing the neighboring hills and later the mountains of the Cascades. She was born with a desire to see the world and experience different cultures.
Her journey began when she graduated from the Providence Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. She later earned both her BSN and MSN. In 1967, while employed by the U.S. State Department, she traveled to Danang, Vietnam, where she became chief nurse of a 725-bed civilian hospital. Her calm presence and nursing expertise saved thousands of lives both American and Vietnamese during the Vietnam War.
Marion spent her life in service to others and was a fierce advocate for equal pay. She founded California’s CRONA labor union and worked tirelessly to improve wages and benefits for nurses across Northern California.
A descendant of a Filles du Roi, an Acadian settler, a North Dakota pioneer, a British Loyalist of the American Revolution, and a Welsh miner, Marion celebrated her family’s heritage. Her beautiful voice echoed in cathedrals and capital cities across Europe as she sang with a celebrated chorale group. She was a passionate traveler who enchanted and inspired her relatives with colorful stories of her experiences living in England, the Philippines, India, and Saudi Arabia.
Marion is survived by her cherished nephews: Paul J. Mullin (Ann), Patrick R. Mullin (Dorcie), Michael Mullin (Sonia), Timothy Mullin (Suneeta), Brian T. Mullin, and James A. Mullin; her great-nieces and nephews; and her Mullin and Edwards cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved brothers, Henry A. Mullin and Erwin F. Mullin, and her dear dog, McDuff.
A celebration of Marion’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul (https://www.svdpvancouverusa.org/)
