Mrs. Marjorie Sue Sweet Miller passed away at home on Friday, June 27, 2025 in Yale, Va. She was a former resident of Cary, N.C.


Mrs. Miller was born on April 21, 1930 in Three Point, Kentucky, daughter of Nannie Silvers Sweet and George Sweet. She was preceded in death by both parents, one brother, one sister and one half brother and one half sister.


Surviving are her children: Cindy Leslie and husband, Bill; Mark Miller and wife Moni; Melissa Jensen and husband, Niels; Matthew Miller and wife, Susan; and seven grandchildren: Lauren Wolf (Luke), William Leslie (Jessica), Nicole Howell (Ryne), Kyra Miller, Tyler Miller, Tenille Torres (Nelson) and Devon Jensen (Heather). She was blessed to be a great grandmother to 11 children! She is also survived by one sister, two half sisters and several nieces and nephews.


Mrs. Miller was a child of the Depression. After her father died, she went to the Louisville Baptist Orphan’s Home. At age 17, she went to Berea College and graduated in 1951. She was the first person in her family to graduate from college.


Mrs. Miller was a smart and determined woman. In her fifties, she moved to Washington, D.C. and began the second chapter of her life. She worked for the federal government until she retired at age 65. She traveled the world while working, including living in homes in Germany, Philippines and Indonesia.


After retirement, Mrs. Miller lived in Chesapeake, VA., Cary, N.C. and finally in Yale, VA. She enjoyed reading, listening to music and actively playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they visited. She received wonderful care in her last years from her daughter, Melissa and son-in-law Niels.


The family will gather at a later date for a celebration of Mrs. Miller’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Appalachia Service Project, 4523 Bristol Hwy, Johnson City, TN 37601
