Obituary
Mark Thomas Anderson June 16,1964– June 28, 2025
Mark Thomas Anderson, 61, of Annandale, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia, on June 16, 1964, Mark was the beloved son of the late Oscar E. Anderson, Jr. and Janet C. (Hill) Anderson. In 1981, he joined the United States Army ROTC and went on to serve with distinction as an agent in the Army Criminal Investigations Division. Mark dedicated two decades of his life to military service, retiring with honor in 2003.
Following his military career, Mark entered the private sector, becoming President of Applied Solutions, Inc. in 2014.
Mark was deeply devoted to his family and community. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and mentor. He took great joy in preserving and sharing family history, becoming the keeper of stories and traditions that connected generations.
A proud Eagle Scout, Mark carried his passion for Scouting throughout his life, serving as a Scoutmaster and guiding dozens of young men to the rank of Eagle. His broad range of skills-spanning from welding and astronomy to cooking and construction-made him a natural teacher and inspiring leader.
Mark's spirit of service extended well beyond Scouting. Whether helping a neighbor, advising a friend, or lending his time to a colleague, Mark shared his wisdom, humor, and quiet strength generously with all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Angela; daughter, Amy Jean (Eduardo Garcia); son, James Thomas Anderson (Kelli Nicholson); grandchildren Allen, Rosabella, and Gabriella Garcia, and Jackson and Milo Anderson. He is also survived by his brother Jeff Anderson; sisters Mary Clark and Becky Jones; and nieces and nephews Evan Anderson, Kylie Jones Price, Mandy Clark, and Cory Jones.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Janet Anderson, and his nephew, Erik Jones.
Mark's legacy of service, leadership, and love will live on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
